Mrs. Miller
Hi everyone! I am the new guidance counselor at Betty Kiefer Elementary, and I’m very excited to be here this year. I graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington with a degree in social work. Then I moved to Ann Arbor and became a Wolverine at the University of Michigan where I received my Masters degree in Social Work. During my educational career I had many opportunities to work in the community, including schools at all levels.
Here at Betty Kiefer, I will be bringing some new ideas, as well as maintaining several programs that are currently in place. One school wide program that we will continue is self-managers. Through this program the students are rewarded for their citizenship, academic accomplishments and dedication to becoming a successful student. With the help of our awesome parent volunteers we put on activities for those students who earn their self-manager badges.
In addition to school wide programs I will also be teaching classroom guidance units. Some components of these units will consist of problem solving skills, personal boundaries and conflict resolution. I will also be conducting small groups that may cover topics such as divorce/separation, anger management and grief/loss issues. As a counselor, I will also see students individually to address their specific needs.
I believe in working as a team and want to let you know that my door is always open. If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year please feel free to contact me through e-mail or by calling the school.
