Welcome to the Self Manager Page!
Reading, writing and arithmetic are not the only subjects that are
taught at Spirit Lake Elementary. Character education is also
considered an important part of the curriculum and as the school
counselor; I participate in implementing the self manager program.
As the name indicates, this program teaches students the importance of
being responsible for ones own behavior.
Specifically students must be able to exemplify the 7 character traits
(respect, responsible, caring, fair, trustworthy, industrious, and
citizenship) 80% or more of the time to all of the adults in the
building. This is not an easy task and it may take some students
several months to become a self manager. Throughout this process,
teachers work individually with students to establish goals tracking
their progress and encouraging them along the way.
Student work hard at achieving this honor and maintaining their "badge"
throughout the year. Not only are the students rewarded
intrinsically but they are also motivated by the monthly activities and
special privileges that teachers may provide.
