The Stages of Grief

The stages of grief generally fit into the following categories. A student won't necessarily go through them in this order, or he/she may experience all or some of them at the same time.
Denial - the student feels numb, cannot believe this could happen
Anger - the student feels anger towards a loved one who has left, anger towards God or life
Bargaining - the student feels that “if only I would have done this, or had not done that...”
Depression - the student feels sadness, feels that nothing matters
Acceptance - the student accepts the reality of the loss and is able to look forward to the future

Mrs. Trotter recently introduced me to a wonderful parenting website called Family Works Inc.  The Parenting Wisely programs used on this website are research and evidence based, meaning the results are proven using scientific research methods.  The advice may at times seems very common sense or simplistic, however they are a outstanding guidelines and reminders about how we can most effectively interact with our children, giving them confidence and eliciting the best performance possible.  Thank you for the tip Mrs. Trotter!!  Click the link below to visit the website.

Dealing with Suggestive Clothing

By Jan Faull, M.Ed

Q. My 13-year-old dresses much too suggestively for her age. She says that's the way all the girls at school are dressing -- and that she has to if she wants to be popular. It's true that when I drop her off I see her friends wearing the same type of clothing -- off-the-shoulder tops, very tight jeans, short skirts, heels, and way too much makeup. I don't know how we got to this point. What can I do?

Sexually Transmitted Diseases

More than 12 million cases of sexually transmitted diseases are reported in the US each year, with almost half of them reported by teens. Teens and young adults ages 15-23 have the highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases of any age group. Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are the most commonly reported diseases. Both are bacterial infections and both can be treated with antibiotics.
