What is Concurrent Enrollment?

Concurrent Enrollment courses are advanced-level courses that simultaneously satisfy the requirements for high school and college credit. Concurrent enrollment courses are taught in the high school building, either by local college professors or by members of the high school teaching faculty approved as adjunct instructors by a college or university.

Why Enroll Concurrently?

The transition to college-level coursework can be a difficult one for many students. While fully satisfying college credit requirements, concurrent courses are taught within the supportive structure and familiar context of the high school. These courses offer a natural bridge into collegiate coursework and expectations, and can help enhance the confidence of students in their own abilities to accomplish college-level coursework.
Concurrent courses are comprehensive and rigorous courses taught at the introductory college level. For high school juniors and seniors willing and able to challenge themselves in this way, these courses encourage academic acceleration toward the post-secondary level, rather than relaxation of standards and motivation as high school graduation approaches.
Concurrent courses offer students an opportunity to earn college credit at a highly-discounted rate, before the full expense of on-campus tuition arrives with enrollment in a college or university degree program. Credits earned through concurrent enrollment are transferable to nearly all colleges and universities, and so can provide an economical way to get a jump start on general education and elective credits.

Instructor: Mr. James teaches as adjunct instructor for North Idaho College. He holds a BS in organizational management from Colorado Christian University, an MEd in counseling and human services and an EdS in school psychology from the University of Idaho. Course Description: College Study Skills provides instruction and practical study techniques essential for academic success. The course emphasizes managing time, taking notes, reading textbooks efficiently, and preparing for and taking exams.

Course Description: English Composition prepares students for the demands of academic and professional writing. Students learn processes and strategies for writing clear, precise, and accurate prose and demonstrate their abilities in a series of expository essays. Students also learn to read, analyze, synthesize, and respond to a collection of written texts.
