Class Details

Description:

This course is designed to develop "touch" keyboarding techniques, with regards to posture, hand placement and body position.  In addition, we will develop an understanding of the proper procedure for starting and shutdown of the computer system, understand networks and logging on versus stand alone stations, understand what Repetitive Stress Injury is and its correlation to keyboarding, and gain an understanding of the basic functions within various application software.

  • 100%  - 90% = A
  • 89.9% - 80% = B
  • 79.9% - 70% = C
  • 69.9% - 60% = D
  • 59.9% & Below = F
  • Technique 20%
  • Assignments 20%
  • Timings 20%
  • Quizzes & Tests 25%
  • Final 10%
  • Participation 5%


Late Work:

Students will have two days following an excused abscence to make up work or tests.  Work previously assigned will be due the day the student returns to school.


Classroom Expectations:
  1. You are expected to work on your assignments throughout the whole class period.
  2. When keyboarding you are expected to use the proper technique at all times.
  3. You will not distract others from learning and getting their work done by wandering around and/or talking to other students in the classroom.
  4. There will be no computer games played during this class.  If you complete your work early and have no missing assignments, you may work on Micro-Type Pro to increase your keyboarding skill and speed.
  5. You will not use e-mail or Internet except when given permission.
  6. There will be no food or drink in the computer lab.
  7. You will not interrupt while the teacher is talking.  If you have a question raise your hand and you will get a chance to ask your question.
  8. You are responsible to have all your supplies ready for the day's class at the beginning of class going to your locker to get something you forgot will be counted as a tardy.
  9. Appropriate language must be used during class.

 
Cheating:

No credit will be given for any assignments or tests completed by cheating, and will be no chance for make up work.  If a student is caught cheating a telephone conference will be scheduled with your parents.


Consequences:

Failure to follow the classroom expectations will result in being refocused and/or being assigned lunch detention.  You will not be refocused more than once a day.  On the second incident, you will be sent directly to the office.
