Class Details
Description:
My philosophy is that students should learn to use computer programs that they
will be able to use later in their school careers with projects, essays,
presentations, web pages, etc. The goal of this class is to help prepare
students to be responsible, informed and productive in a rapidly changing,
technological world. This course will provide students with the opportunity to
receive technology access, to use technology to solve problems, to assist
students in continued learning, and to gain the power to communicate, process
information and be productive. Playing Internet games is not part of this
curriculum. I want students to feel successful in their learning, and thus, I
grade on participation, effort, and work quality. Students are required to come
to class with a pencil/pen and paper. Most assignments and projects will be
completed at school. Occasionally homework will be given such as completing a
storyboard for a presentation. I expect that students will enjoy this course.
Student Expectations:
Students, you must come to class prepared to learn. You must be willing to ask
questions and participate in class. If you need help, you must let me know. If
you apply yourself and seek the help you need, you will have a successful
quarter in my class. Parents, if you need to talk to me, you can reach me by
telephone or e-mail. The best times to call at school are before school 7:45 –
8:15 A. M., after school 3:00 – 3:30 P.M., or during lunch 11: 50- 12:20 P.M.

Classroom Expectations:
My classroom expectations are quite simple and straightforward. I am expected
to be prepared to teach each day, and you are expected to be prepared to learn
each day. In order to achieve this, a learning environment must be maintained.
The following rules are:
- Have a signed Network User Agreement on file in the office.
- Be respectful to others and their property at all times.
- Come to class on time and prepared.
- Listen when someone is talking.
- Get permission to talk by raising your hand.
- Follow all directions the first time given.
- Use equipment, programs and the Internet appropriately.
- No food, gum or drink in the lab.
- You are responsible for intentional damage or destruction of classroom
equipment.
Consequences
- I will tell you to stop the behavior.
- I will send you to refocus or I will conference with you in the hall or after
class.
- Parent contact will be made followed by an appropriate disciplinary action.
- Office referral will be made.
Note: Severe behavior problems will result in an immediate office referral
without using steps 1-3.
Assignments:
Due dates of assignments, quizzes, and projects will be clearly posted.
Daily assignments and projects must be completed on time to receive full credit.
Late work will be graded but 50% will be deducted for being late. The best score
a student can receive on late work is 50%. Parent contact must be made for a
student to receive points for any assignment more than 5 days old. Time will be
given time in class to complete daily assignments and projects.
Make-up Work:
If you are absent, assignments will be clearly posted on the homework calendar.
It is your responsibility to check this calendar and completed make up work on
time. See student handbook for make-up policy. If you have difficulty getting
caught up, you will need to make arrangements to work on your assignment before
or after school. Working on assignments at home can be arranged if you have
access to the software program at home.
Course Topics:
Technology Elective is a quarter course and will cover a variety of technology
and computer software programs, MS Office and the Internet. The content of this
course includes:
